Wizkids Unleashes Monsters From The Upcoming ‘Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual’

Welcome to the table,

Dungeons & Dragons will be getting a new Monster Manual very soon, and with Monster Manuals come minis. Leading the charge into the new collection of creatures coming to the table are my pals at WizKids.

The above image is from the preview we did of the upcoming Monster Manual at Comicon. I noted it because it features some cultists and seemingly Orcus, one of my favorite D&D demon princes and the “Lord of the Undead,” coming out of a portal wielding what I am fairly certain is the Wand of Orcus.

One of the renders my pals over at WizKids provided looks like it has been pulled right off the page and sculpted into preprinted plastic, ready to deploy at the gaming table. It’s so cool to see the attention to detail that the artisans went to as they captured something directly from the upcoming book.

As an aside, I have the WizKids Wand of Orcus mounted on the wall in my office next to the hook that holds all my convention badges from over the years. It’s honestly one of my favorite items in that whole room. You can score your own Wand of Orcus from WizKids at this link.

The renders for the Nightmare really has me excited. The flames are seemingly made of a semitransparent material that WizKids frequently uses. I love the way they sculpt in those. A Nightmare is such an iconic monster . Seeing this makes me excited for some table possibilities if I can gather a heard of them.

The Ghast is a classic undead, and another one of my favorite creatures for early game encounters. I like to deploy one of them as an early level “big bad” against players starting off, as it offers some dynamic possibilities to the regularly seen low-level combat options. It’s also fun to start worrying players with their turn resistance.

The succubus looks rather dashing, with their black leather armor, purple skin, and crimson wings and tail. Another iconic creature that feels timeless in this sculpt, and while I can’t show you the succubus entry from the Monster Manual just yet, WizKids has done a fantastic job of matching the render to the art up to this point. My faith in them to continuing to do so is unshakable.

And yes, there are dragons.

Many dragons that are going to delight!

WizKids keeps bring amazing minis to the table and the team keeps leading the charge in providing epic additions to the D&D table experience. As more of these mightly little mini monsters drop I will keep you looped in.
