And to end with, as we opened with that unpublished Garry Leach Bojeffries Saga cover, why not some more of one of the funniest comics there’s ever been – Alan Moore and Steve Parkhouse‘s The Bojeffries Saga…

Think Addams Family with Alan Bennett’s northern tones, complete with liberal dashes of Baxendale and the Goons, mixed in with classic horror and sci-fi. It’s a kitchen sink soap opera comedy family of weirdos to remember, all factory fortnights, work dos, Christmas in front of the TV and turkey, and in the best tale of all, the rent collector coming by.

It’s had a rather sporadic and nomadic publishing existence – with the first Bojeffries tale – “The Rentman Cometh” – like so many other greats, first appeared in Quality Communications’ iconic and influential Warrior. Issue 12, Aug 1983, to be specific. A further three tales were published in Warrior, along with one in Fantagraphics’ Dalgoda issue 8 (Apr 1986). After that, we had four new tales between May 1989 and April 1990 in Atomeka Press’s A1 issues #1–4, and another in 1991’s A1 True Life Bikini Confidential.

These were all collected in 1992 by Kevin Eastman’s exercise in how to lose millions of dollars publishing comics, Tundra Press. And finally, everything Bojeffries was collected in The Bojeffries Saga from Top Shelf in 2013. Needless to say, go out and buy it now.

And finally… the new story for the collections and the iconic first part of ‘The Rentman Cometh’ – Poor Trevor Inchmale, bicycle riding council rent collector is here to investigate a century worth of unpaid rent by the Bojeffries. He really doesn’t know what he’s letting himself in for.
