ICYMI: ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Tease Prepares For Launch

by Erik Amaya

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is beginning its marketing push.

Earlier today, Disney release a very short tease (above) announcing the trailer will go live tomorrow morning. Or, if you’re inclined to be part of the fiction of it all, live coverage of the Four’s historic launch into space begins at 7am ET/4AM PT. Of course, that aspect of the story will be presented in a myriad of ways as First Steps is not an origin story in the vein of earlier Fantastic Four film attempts. Instead, the film will open with Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) already established in their public superhero personas. And, seemingly, their world already benefits from the discoveries Reed has made since their spaceshot.

Set in an alternate 1960s Marvel reality where the Four are heroes, celebrities, and science innovators, they will be called upon to save the planet from the calamity known as Galactus. Or, at least we think that’s the plot of the film. The Devourer of Worlds appeared in the pre-filming test reel Disney and Marvel ran at last year’s Comic-Con International: San Diego and D23 presentations. Also, word indicates the character will be voiced by Ralph Ineson while Julia Garner will reportedly appear as a version of the Silver Surfer based on the Shalla-Bal of the Earth-X reality. Marvel has yet to confirm this, though, so it is possible the film will be set after Galactus makes his way to Earth.

Hopefully, tomorrow’s trailer will shine more light on the film’s actual plot. Although, Marvel trailers are notorious for misdirection, removing cast from shots, and setting up very different plots from the eventual film. One thing we doubt we’ll see: any hint of Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) despite being the team’s greatest nemesis.

Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theaters on July 25th.
