‘Killer Bee’ To Receive Film Adaptation From Confluential Films With DeWanda Wise Set To Star

DeWanda Wise may soon be a Killer Bee.
Confluential Films, founded by Tommy Oliver, announced Wednesday its plans to adapt David Crownson‘s graphic novel Killer Bee for the screen with Wise attached to star. Kevin Arbouet and Terry Rossio are writing the script for the action adventure, which focuses on a “retiring assassin who takes on an underground criminal network after being tasked to kill the man she’s recently fallen in love with.” While the latter scribe is known for work on both the Pirates of the Caribbean film series and Godzilla vs. Kong, the former is best known for the Audible true-crime series MOVE: The Untold Story of an American Tragedy.
“With DeWanda, the writing team of Terry and Kevin, and kick-ass source material, we have the ingredients for something very cool, that we are excitedly fast-tracking,” Oliver said in a statement.
And, indeed, the project is on the fast track. While many comic-to-movie announcements come and go, doing so with a star attached suggests a level of preparedness that may lead to a quick production start date if not a completed film.
Wise, Crownson will also serve as executive producers alongside Jack Coburn, Sean Mik’ael Butler, and Patrick Strøm. Other Confluential Films releases include Going To Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project, Fancy Dance, and Juice Wrld: Into The Abyss. Wise may also be familiar to close-watchers of Marvel Studios developments as the actor who almost played Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel. Scheduling conflicts forced her to drop out of the film, but she still appeared in a tentpole release with 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion. Killer Bee will be her first comic book adaptation.
