Comics Pro 2025: Dynamite Announces ‘Space Ghost’ Annual To Commemorate A First Successful Year

Dynamite’s Space Ghost has proved to be one of its most commercially and critically successful comic books of late. And to celebrate, the series is getting an annual.
The company announced Tuesday that Space Ghost Annual #1 will be available this summer, capping off the first successful year of the series from writer David Pepose and artist Jonathan Lau, while also teasing some of the things readers can expect in year two.
The comic book re-frames the characters from the 1960s Hanna-Barbera animated series in an even more serious tone. As the story opens, Space Ghost is a hard-nosed vigilante trying to keep the space ways safe from pirates taking advantage of an understaffed and ineffectual interstellar government. But in meeting Jan, Jace, and Blip, Space Ghost mellows out ever so slightly, even if circumstances can lead him back to that grimmer persona. Within the pages of the annual, though, the Robo Corp storyline draws to a close as readers learn more about Dr. Xander Ibal’s devious plans for Blip. Will it have anything to do with unleashing the malevolent artificial intelligence known as Ultima on an unsuspecting universe? It will take the skills of our three heroes to stop the whole Council of Doom and Ultima. And even if they succeed, a new villain waits in the wings to challenge Space Ghost.
“From the very beginning, Space Ghost has been a true labor of love from me and artist Jonathan Lau, bringing together the best parts of superheroes and science fiction — and we’re so excited for readers to finally witness the epic showdown that we’ve been building up to all along,” Pepose said in a statement. “We’ve been so lucky to have an army of creators, fans, retailers, and press tirelessly champion our work, and I can’t wait for everyone to see what Jonathan and I have coming next. The future couldn’t be more exciting — or more dangerous — for Space Ghost and his intergalactic found family!”
With 28 pages of story, the annual also features covers from Francesco Mattina, Jae Lee, Bjorn Barends, and Anthony Marques.
Space Ghost Annual #1 makes its way to comic book shops this June.
