ICYMI: ‘Fable’ Gets Some Sweet Pre-Alpha Footage…And Gets Delayed To 2026

by Sage Ashford

During a recent discussion on the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan admitted that Playground Games’ Fable has been delayed from 2025 into 2026. Duncan explained that the decision was made to give the game more time to develop, and assured fans that it would be “worth the wait.”

This delay comes just a month after the well-received Xbox Developer_Direct 2025, which revealed release dates for South of Midnight, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Doom: The Dark Ages.  It also comes just after the release of Avowed, which seems to have done well both critically and commercially.

At the same time, the Xbox Podcast also premiered roughly a minute of Fable pre-alpha gameplay, which demonstrates more environments, gives a good glimpse of combat, and a bit of chicken kicking, just for good measure.

In truth, with The Outer Worlds 2 also still supposedly scheduled for 2025, this year already seemed packed enough for Xbox. Giving Fable more time just seems like the smart move when there’s such a great slate of games prepared already. Especially if the rumors about a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is actually real and its releasing this year.  That might be one too many fantasy RPG epics for 2025!
