Joe Quesada & Marvel Girl Return In New ‘Phoenix’ Variant Cover

by Tony Thornley

There’s no creator that’s made as big a mark on Marvel Comics in the 21st Century as Joe Quesada. Later this year, he returns to the House of Ideas, with a cover that’s just the first of many.

Marvel’s former editor-in-chief has taken a break from the publisher for a little while. Starting in May, he returns to the publisher that he helped make a pop culture juggernaut after its infamous bankruptcy.

In May’s Phoenix #11, his comeback begins with a variant cover spotlighting one of Jean Grey’s most famous looks. And best of all, this is just the first of many new pieces.

In addition to his tenure as editor-in-chief, a time that saw him help elevate Marvel back into the spotlight, Quesada pencilled some of the most famous pieces of Marvel art in the last 20 years. Much of it is still front and center today, such as the iconic Marvel Now promo image that’s been the banner image for Marvel’s Insider program practically since that program began, or the incredible variant cover of New Avengers #1.

What will Quesada craft next? Stay tuned for the announcement from Marvel Comics in the coming days.
