Review: ‘The Tin Can Society’ #6 Continues Off The Premise

The premise that co-plotter Rick Remender and co-plotter/writer Peter Warren are using continues to have interesting developments occur because of it. This is especially true with this issue’s various reveals. Although the amount of characterization sees a reduction since about two-thirds of this installment is just exposition. Still there is some action towards the end that evokes a little bit of a certain movie that this reviewer can’t mention without spoiling things. As for the expositional dialogue Warren keeps things engaging by answering questions while info dumping via an unreliable narrator. Warren counters what might be a boring info dump with some internal monologuing by a seemingly reliable lead. Not to mention that the opening provides possible answers while the cliffhanger deepens the mystery.
Artist Francesco Mobili and colorist Chris Chuckry proceed to provide amazing interior visuals. Arguably Mobili gets to unleash a bit more with the graphic action this time than in previous issues to the point that it almost feels like the age rating is wrong. (However, this reviewer thinks that most age ratings are incorrect, especially with the state of the world.) As for Chuckry’s coloring, he seems to get to apply a wider range of hues throughout this part of the series. Chuckry apparently uses a duskier type of tone for most of the series, but at the beginning of this issue there is a lightening of the selection. When it comes to their cover the background looks like sandpaper in texture and color. While the cover design is not unique it also is not generic.
Letterer Jackie Marzan’s choice of font is mostly the same for both the dialogue and monologue with the exception of certain emotional beats. During these moments Marzan changes the text to match the emotion and suggestion of vocal volume.
Cover B is by artist Jonathan Wayshak features a rather unique and dire design. The shading and texture are also highlights for this cover.

Summary
Johnny Moore’s friends that call themselves The Tin Can Society continue to investigate his death. Yet, their latest clue is leaving creating even more of a mystery than they would like to have. Can they find answers with his widow? If they do will it keep them from more danger or just lead to an extreme amount?
