Marvel Comics Reveals New ‘Imperial’ Details

Marvel’s Imperial promises to change the publisher’s cosmic stories forever. In a new interview, the publisher revealed some of the secrets of the upcoming series.
In an interview with ComicBook.com artists Federico Vincentini and Iban Coello, Marvel showed off the duo’s art for the series, as well as first plot details from the Jonathan Hickman helmed series. The massive event will set the stage for a new interconnected line of space-set series.
Imperial kicks off with the elimination of several prominent intergalactic leaders. As a result, new figures rush in to fill the void, leading to a new landscape of cosmic dangers and intrigue. The series will be full of new developments for some of the biggest players in the Marvel Universe, including Hulks, Black Panthers, Novas, Guardians and Mutants!
In these new preview pages, we get to see some of these new details. In the pages by Coello, we see the Hulks leave Earth for Sakaar. This revealed that the trio on the cover of Imperial #1 are indeed Bruce Banner, Jen Walters and Amadeus Cho, which is a fascinating set up for the characters.
Meanwhile, Vincentini’s pages shows Nova and Star-Lord coming back together to guard the galaxy once again. Meanwhile, Quill’s father J’Son plots in the background. It’s not surprising to see this, as Peter Quill has essentially become the flagship hero of Marvel’s space stories.
Asked about his design process, Vicentini told ComicBook.com, “When creating the costumes, I wanted to go back a bit to the past, such as bringing back Star-Lord’s helmet, giving Nova an aviator-style jacket, and taking inspiration from classic heroes like Flash Gordon.”
“Usually Jonathan Hickman gives me a general idea of the character’s look in the script, and I work based on that,” Coello said. “Tying the new look with the personality of the characters and having it make sense in this new era they’re entering. I think that She-Hulk is the one who underwent the biggest change.”
