Ten Speed Announces Print Version Of ‘Nothing Special’ Volume 3: ‘Pride and Pompousness’

by Anton Kromoff

Welcome to the table,

WEBTOON always feels like the gift that keeps giving. Today I want to tell you about the award-winning author Katie Cooke and her all ages WEBTOON series Nothing Special. A story of magic, mayhem, and mouthy vegetables, Nothing Special has done a brilliant thing I love to see. They’ve a scroll-based story off the powerhouse webcomic platform and translated it to the printed page.

Now, Nothing Special has not only done this once, with it’s first offering Nothing Special Volume One: Through the Elder Wood, a story that kicks off the adventure of Callie and her ghost radish friend, but it has continued into Nothing Special Volume Two: Concerning Wings, continuing Callie’s adventure as she helps her friends, makes time for love, and goes on adventures across the strange landscape she calls home.

These books are a delight. They capture all the quirky fun of a fantasy story with really rad art but play in that space that is entertaining for older readers and welcoming enough for younger readers creating a story that is both heartwarming and hilarious.

Now the fine folks over at Ten Speed have announced that a third volume titled Nothing Special Volume Three: Pride and Pompousness is preparing to land on the printed page!

This offering sees Callie and the gang discovering that her boyfriend is the grandson of fairy royalty! However, not everyone in her life is excited about the news. Jealousy rears its ugly head to disrupt everyone’s joy and launch some nefarious schemes to see that the magical inheritances does not end up where it truly belongs!

The price point on these books is really nice for young (and young at heart) readers. The quality of print production means they will hold up well in backpacks and bookshelves. These are the kinds of things I could see myself reading a ton as a kid and am certain there are other avid readers out there looking for new stories to get lost in.

Until next time, be kind to each other!
