Dynamite’s ‘ThunderCats’ #16 To Begin Fourth Story Arc In May

by Erik Amaya

The ThunderCats are still on the move in their Dynamite comic and the company has revealed details of the fourth story arc beginning in this month’s ThunderCats #16.

Lion-O is missing! In response, Cheetara must step up as interim leader. Meanwhile, Calica has returned and Tygra has introduced a new alloy he dubs “Thundore.” Crafting armor from the material, he makes it possible for Panthro to walk again. But even this new status quo is upended when Bengali (currently seen in ThunderCats Lost) makes a sudden appearance on Third Earth.

“The first year of bringing ThunderCats back to comics, to old fans and new, has been a thrilling experience,” writer Declan Shalvey said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege for myself and [artist] Drew Moss to establish a new mythos for these characters in comics, and seeing it build out into new and exciting connected series like SilverHawks and ThunderCats Lost. Now the playing field for our series is bigger and bolder, our characters face greater challenges requiring a new innovation: The Knights of Thundera.”

Indeed, the Knights will be “a more proactive security force hunting down and crippling their enemies.” Each member will have a “fearsome new sword, all matched to their characterization and existing fighting styles” designed by Moss and new armor. You can glimpse some of the design work in the gallery below:
