Wizkids Answers Player Feedback With HeroClix 400 ‘Cap’s Kooky Quartet’

My pals at HeroClix have some seriously fun collections. One of the most recent offerings from them that had me scratching my head, doing some research, and then getting positively giddy because of how weird and fun the team is, is their HeroClix 400 Cap’s Kooky Quartet set.

I was totally unfamiliar with the name “Kooky Quartet” but that shows how much I read cape* books from the Marvel camp. The team, consisting of Captain America, the Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Hawkeye, were originally pulled together as an Avengers team in a brief 11 issue run.

From all the sources I could find, this run sounds hilarious. They try to get Hulk to rejoin the team and end up having to fight random villains and then decide “Ehh, we don’t need him.”

They go up against Dr. Doom, they tell the Swordmaster he can’t play with them, and they fight freaking Kang in the future because… comic books! Apparently, the whole time Hawkeye just complains and acts like a total child and Cap’ does not toss him out of the window or leave him in some far flung future timeline to find his own way back home.

WizKids delivers these delightful heroes in a cool little collectible display case. Mine, however, was wrecked by the mailman so I am having to show you renders. It kind of speaks to the power of the packaging though because even though the box was badly battered the blister barricade inside buffered these boss little bobbles from breaking before they became mine.

In addition to the cool look of the display, this set does something I love. It shows that WizKids listens to their fanbase. For those unfamiliar with competitive HeroClix play, the game is, for the most part, played with 300 points. That has been the default point value for the game for as long as I can recall.

However with HeroClix 400 sets, like the one I am about to talk about, HeroClix has gotten feedback from players that 400 games can be a ton of fun. Players can field larger squads that fit themes and the meta they are trying to emulate at the table.

HeroClix, always on a quest to support the fans, has designed a team that would immediately scale for those larger point value games. Having an out of the box set is rad. It gives you a balanced squad, it is attached to a meta team already recognizable from the comics, and it gives players a chance to spread themselves out a bit more on the table and find new play styles they may have not experienced adhering to the smaller point value.
