Suda 51 Reveals His Next Game: ‘Romeo Is A Dead Man’

by Tito W. James

The founder of game studio Grasshopper is Suda 51. A legend known for is punk-rock attitude and bizarre sense of humor. I first encountered Suda 51’s games with titles like No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw.

The latter was a bonkers Rosetta Stone of pop culture where Suda 51 collaborated with James Gunn and also served as a breakout role for spokesmodel turned pro-cosplayer Jessica Nigri.

Romeo is a Dead Man appears to share elements of the previous Grasshopper games. The hack-and-slash gameplay reminds me of Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes. This new title also sports colorful carnage when combating the undead — just like in Lollipop Chainsaw. The playable character is even called Romeo, as if to hint at Lollipop Chainsaw’s protagonist Juliet Starling.

While there are aspects of Romeo is a Dead Man that will be familiar to Suda 51 fans, I believe that this new title could be the perfect entry point for new players. And as will all Grasshopper games, we can expect the unexpected.
