Arrow Video’s August Releases Include Michael Mann, John Wayne, Leatherface, And ‘Poseidon’ In 4K UHD

Arrow Video has a typically eclectic slate of physical media releases for August, including an early Michael Mann favorite, a late John Wayne western, little-seen indie genre fare, and other titles, some of which are making their 4K UHD debuts.

First up, the 2006 prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning will make its debut on 4K UHD for both US and UK audiences. Following the hit 2003 remake, executive producer Michael Bay returned to the scene of the crime for this exploration of Leatherface’s (Andrew Bryniarski) surprisingly unhappy home life. It also stars R. Lee Ermey and Jordana Brewster. Fans can choose between the theatrical cut and the extended version for even more mayhem. Extras are TBD, but it will come with a reversible sleeve, a poster, and a collector’s booklet.

Iconic director Don Siegel (Dirty Harry, Escape From Alcatraz) teams with Wayne for his final screen performance in 1976’s haunting western The Shootist, arriving on Blu-ray. Wayne plays a cancer-stricken gunfighter playing out his final days alongside a stellar supporting cast that includes James Stewart, Lauren Bacall, and a young Ron Howard. The UK-only Blu-ray includes a collector’s booklet and a reversible sleeve.

’80s cult classic Enemy Territory is up next on limited edition Blu-ray featuring a brand new restoration. Gary Frank plays Barry, an ordinary insurance salesman with the extraordinarily bad luck to end up trapped in a decrepit apartment building surrounded by a vicious street gang called the Vampires. The bizarre cast includes Ghostbusters singer Ray Parker Jr., fan favorite Tony Todd, almost-household name Jan-Michael Vincent, and future Clueless star/political firebrand Stacey Dash. Enemy Territory sports a new audio commentary from director Peter Manoogian (Eliminators), plus a reversible sleeve, a poster, and an illustrated booklet. UK only.

Mann’s Chicago crime epic Thief also lands on 4K UHD in the UK only. James Caan plays the title character, an expert jewel thief looking for one last score before going straight and settling down with his girlfriend (Tuesday Weld). Noted Chicagoans James Belushi and Dennis Farina also appear, along with notable non-Chicagoan Willie Nelson. The UK-only 2-disc set features a brand new 4K restoration of Mann’s preferred cut, and a Blu-ray presentation of the theatrical cut, along with a reversible sleeve and collector’s booklet.

August also brings a Blu-ray release of director Jennifer Reeder‘s 2023 horror-comedy Perpetrator. On her 18th birthday, Johnny (Kiah McKirnan) is introduced to a family blessing/curse called the Forevering, which grants her supernatural powers and sets her on a path to hunt down a local serial killer preying on young women. The cast also includes Alicia Silverstone, Melanie Liburd, and Christopher Lowell. The UK and US release includes an audio commentary from Reeder, plus three of her short films, a reversible sleeve, and a collector’s booklet.

Last but not least, Arrow’s August slate brings you Wolfgang Petersen‘s gripping 2006 remake Poseidon, making its debut on 4K UHD. A group of tourists and deckhands — including Kurt Russell, Josh Lucas, Richard Dreyfuss, Andre Braugher, and Emmy Rossum — band together to survive a capsized cruise ship. Extras are TBD, but the US and UK release boasts a reversible sleeve and a collector’s booklet.
