Nick Seluk Launches New ‘Heart And Brain’ Collection On Kickstarter

Nick Seluk has come a long way in thirteen years with his deceptively simple drawings of a blue yeti named Lars. The Awkward Yeti has arguably long been eclipsed by his own anthropomorphised organs, notably his Heart and Brain. Seluk launched a Kickstarter a couple days ago for Heart and Brain: Barely Hanging On (…But Never Giving Up), a brand new curated anthology of Heart and Brain/Awkward Yeti comics from the past few years, including the poignant viral hit Heart Transplant. Unsurprisingly, the campaign funded in less than six hours.  

Seluk notes that the changes in social media algorithms are making it nearly impossible for comic creators to reach their own audiences. This makes it likely most readers haven’t seen as much of the Awkward Yeti the past few years, but it’s still there with all the Heart and Brain you’re used to.

The new 120-page collection includes dozens of comics never seen on social media, 20 comics made exclusively for this book, fan favorites, behind-the-scenes commentary and content, and more. Made for adults and teens, but appropriate for all ages (as long as you’re okay with a little bit of gross medical humor), it’s the most content-rich Heart and Brain book ever made.

Backer rewards kick in at the $20 level for a digital or physical copy of Heart and Brain: Barely Hanging On (…But Never Giving Up). At the $50 tier, backers get an autographed physical copy and recognition on the Thank You page of the book. $125 will get you a complete signed collection of the new book and the previous four books.
