‘Krull’ To Get The 4K Steelbook Treatment

Fan of the Glaive rejoice: Krull is coming to 4K UHD in September.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced on Friday that the Peter Yates film will get the full 4k Steelbook treatment. Special features — which include a commentary track, featurette, and trailer — were previously produced, but make their Blu-ray debut on the supplemental disc. The nature of those bonus items is secondary, though, as Krull fans just want the film in the highest resolution possible. The 4K disc will deliver thanks to a new Dolby Vision master scanned from the original camera negative and approved by cinematographer Peter Suschitzky.
A previous Your Weekend Cheesy Movie honoree, Krull takes place on the titular planet, where an alien force known only as the Beast (the voice of Trevor Martin) intends to take Princess Lyssa (Lysette Anthony) as its bride in the hopes of influencing a prophecy stating her child will rule the galaxy. Standing in the way of the Beast’s plan is Prince Colwyn (Ken Marshall) and band of misfits, ruffians, and Ergo the Magnificent (David Battley) — short in stature, tall in power, narrow of purpose, and wide of vision.
While not the best movie of its era, it has certain charms. And when this reporter worked at a video store, he would inevitably sell a copy of Krull to customers just by putting the film on the shop’s big screen TV. Usually, within ten minutes of the movie starting. If you’ve never seen it, give it try and then get ready for its 4K UHD release on September 16th.
