Brombal & Phillips Team For Horror-Western ‘Everything Dead & Dying’ From Image & Tiny Onion
by Tony Thornley
Horror stories are a dime a dozen in comic books, but this September Everything Dead & Dying promises a new twist to the genre by going west.

In the first collaboration between Eisner nominated creators Tate Brombal and Jacob Phillips, Everything Dead & Dying is a haunting rural character piece set during a zombie outbreak, blending Yellowstone and The Last of Us. This five issue miniseries is set to launch in September from Image Comics in collaboration with Tiny Onion.
The series follows Jack Chandler, a sole survivor of the zombie apocalypse bunkered down in his rural farming town. But rather than ending the zombies, Jack has chosen to continue living alongside the undead—including the husband and adopted daughter he fought so hard to have. But when his town is discovered by outsiders, Jack finds himself becoming the only thing standing in the way of those who hope to kill his family for good.
“Everything Dead & Dying has been in my brain marinating and rotting since the summer of 2020, now five years later it is finally emerging in all of its undead glory,” said Brombal. “I had never read a zombie story like this, so I pushed up my sleeves and decided to write it myself. I’m so excited to be working with my good friend, Jacob Phillips, who has never been better, and I’m incredibly proud that this story will be published by Image Comics — the publisher that revitalized zombie stories for an entire generation. This comic is an ode to everything that came before—and everything that refuses to die.”
Phillips added: “A biting tale full of brains and guts. We’ve poured blood, sweat and tears into this comic that will leave you hungry for more. But seriously. It’s been an absolute joy to build and inhabit this world of the undead with Tate, Pip and Aditya. We cannot wait for you to experience this story in all its gory.”
The series will feature covers by comics stars like Phillips, Joshua Hixson, Sean Phillips and more, including a soon to be announced Sealth Variant from a surprise artist.
