ICYMI: ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Final Trailer Offers Powers, A Baby, And A Classic Line … Sort Of

by Erik Amaya

The hype is reaching a certain level for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. A few days ago, Marvel and Disney unleashed one final trailer which offers, among other things, a better look at the team’s powers, the herald of Galactus (Julia Garner), the Devourer of Worlds himself (Ralph Ineson), The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) with a beard, and a baby!?

We have to admit this trailer is giving us good vibes. It looks accomplished and the sort of summer superhero movie we want to watch. Oh, but what of the baby? Is it Franklin? Is it Val? Is it a new character just for the Four’s version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Those who pay attention to all the merchandise may have more of a clue, but we’ll keep our speculation to ourselves. In the meantime, we’re amused by Ben being unwilling to “say the line,” the possibility that the actual 1960s Fantastic Four cartoon may play a role in the film, and the overall look of the movie with its ’60s trappings and style.

Even Reed’s (Pedro Pascal) stretching powers look cool — a real feat considering none of the previous FF films managed to pull it off in a satisfactory way.

Of course, it remains to be seen if First Steps can deliver in the story department as well as it does with its visuals. But considering director Matt Shakman gave us one of the best Marvel television miniseries, WandaVision, we’re inclined to think this may be prove to be the Marvel movie of the year — and that’s considering the fact we enjoyed both Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. This one, though, seems like a step forward for the MCU.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters on July 25th.
