Welcome To Superman Week At Comicon.com

The biggest movie of the summer is out this Friday, a movie anticipated to be so big that the only thing opening against it is the latest Madea movie and a Disney Channel Original Movie — Superman.
The film isn’t just a return to form on the big screen for DC Comics’ Man of Steel, but it’s the beginning of DC Studios’ new interconnected film universe. From all appearances this is the first Superman movie that has fully understood the character since the first two Christopher Reeve starring films. Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns really was just a semi-remake semi-sequel to those films, and Man of Steel simply didn’t understand the character.
And best of all, it’s on a modern budget with modern effects.
As a kid, I started in comics with G.I. Joe. But the Death of Superman event captured my imagination, just like it did many my age. I wasn’t able to get a copy of Superman #75 until much later in life (a third printing as a teenager, and a newsstand and direct market first printing in the last year), but it still captivated me. My first ongoing series entirely of my own was actually the Superboy series that spun out of the Reign of Superman. I would semi-regularly pick up Superman and Superman: The Man of Steel though, even with my limited childhood budget.
A day came that my local shop closed, and I took a break from reading comics on a regular basis. I would still pick stuff up in the grocery store, which is where I started picking up Superman more regularly- specifically in the electric Superman Red/Superman Blue era. It was enough that when my local shop returned, I began picking up comics regularly again — the post-Zero Tolerance era of X-Men and the Y2K/City of Tomorrow era of Superman.
I’ve had at least one Superman title in my pull list ever since.
