Dynamite’s ‘Fire And Ice: Nekron’ Special Promises To Offer A Winter Chill This December

While many of Dynamite’s 2025 winter specials are focusing on the heroes, an upcoming Ice and Fire release will center the bad guy.
Fire And Ice: Nekron is the next expansion of the series, courtesy of writer Sara Frazetta — granddaughter of Fire and Ice co-creator Frank Frazetta — and artist Geof Isherwood. As its title suggest, the tale will focus on the cruel ruler of Icepeak. Learning the dark arts from his mother, Queen Juliana, he can move glaciers. In the film, from the elder Frazetta and director Ralph Bakshi, that act initiates a war with Firekeep, but the special will reveal his birth and tutelage prior to the events of the movie.
In what the company calls a “cautionary tale of grief, rage, and the ultimate corruption of ambition,” Juliana rejects the gods of balance following the immolation of her husband and devotes herself to wolf-god Ulghir. The results: a pair of children whose destines come to fruition in the film.
“When I started writing Nekron, I rewatched Fire and Ice a few times and focused on the shadowy spaces in the plot,” Frazetta said in a statement. “I’m the kind of person who always needs to know why, so an origin story was right up my alley. Pieces of the story came to me while walking my dogs, others in dreams — it consumed me for weeks, and I loved every moment of the process. I’m incredibly overjoyed with gratitude that Dynamite asked me to do this. Thank you to the entire team for allowing me to rediscover the pure joy of creation.”
Supporting the special issue are covers from Dan Panosian, Jae Lee, and Steve E. Gordon. A fourth cover will be part of Dynamite’s blind bag initiative with each including “two separate copies of the issue, both of which are exclusive to the Blind Bag — one Blank Authentix edition, and also one of five unique variant cover art editions.” Additionally, “70% of bags will feature the mystery fourth cover with trade dress, with others may include black and white lineart or ‘virgin’ variations on the other three revealed covers.
Fire And Ice: Nekron arrives in stores this December.
