Jim Mahfood’s ‘The Arachnid Enforcer’ Kickstarter Campaign Now Live

Jim Mahfood (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, Grrl Scouts, Tank Girl) has become a prominent voice in contemporary underground comix and as reported in August, The Arachnid Enforcer is going to be Mahfood’s bootleg version of everyone’s favorite bug-themed superhero. The campaign for the 48-page Halloween-flavored, superhero parody comic book is now live on Kickstarter. According to Mahfood, the title is infused with R-rated destruction, creepified heroics, horror, comedy, and psycho-sexual mayhem!
Here’s the premise: Chaos has come to the streets of All Hallowsville! The Arachnid Enforcer and his sidekick Gangster Boogie get caught up in a web of spookified mysticism gone wrong. Can they learn to be real heroes or will pure evil enslave their city?
The Kickstarter campaign offers a digital PDF, the printed book with variant covers from Skottie Young, Wayshak, and Mike Del Mundo, a 5-piece print set, and an exclusive print from Derek Laufman. It’s wonderful to see an industry pro like Mahfood cut loose and create a project just for the pure-gonzo-fun of it all. Collecting these comix feels underground in the same way I imagine it felt to discover the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
