Surrender Your Dreams For Immortality In ‘Resurrection’
by Tito W. James
Resurrection is the latest film from acclaimed Chinese director Bi Gan (Long Day’s Journey Into Night). According to the synopsis, “in a future where humanity has surrendered its ability to dream in exchange for immortality, an outcast (Jackson Yee) finds illusion, nightmarish visions, and beauty in an intoxicating world of his own making.” There has been growing interest in Asian cinema that only continues to expand as Hollywood blockbusters fail to resonate. Resurrection‘s moody cinematography and ethereal subject matter look intriguing. I look forward to discovering more international visions and Resurrection appears to be a perfect entry point to the filmography of Bi Gan.
