Marvel Celebrates Superstar Artist Clayton Crain In January Variants
by Tony Thornley
From spirits of vengeance to murderous symbiotes to mutant strike teams, Clayton Crain has made his mark on the Marvel Universe over the past few decades. In January, Marvel Comics celebrates his work with 20 new variant covers.

All throughout January, Marvel fans will be able to pick up covers featuring Crain’s work. In some cases it’s characters he had a hand in shaping like Venom or Archangel. In other cases, it’s some that are new to his distinct style. All of them have the fluid high energy style that Crain is known for though.
“Each of the 20 covers are acrylic painted, which took a total time of around 150 hours to complete,” Crain explained. “Several of them, even after nearly 27 years in the industry, represent my first shot at a published piece of that character. This was a great time, and I am thankful for my editors for their confidence in completing such a marathon of covers.”
Check out all twenty covers now and watch for them in store all through January from Marvel Comics!
