Pathea Games Creates The Perfect Avatar Game With “The God Slayer”
by Sage Ashford
Developer Pathea Games is best known for their work on the cozy My Time At series, but they decided to make a huge shift with their upcoming title, an open-world action RPG entitled The God Slayer. In the game, humanity lives under the rule of the Celestials, beings who live off the power of humanity’s qi to retain power and eternal life. After humanity began using their own qi to become Elemancers, the Celestials brutally wiped out one country’s Elemancers in an event called The God Fall. Players take on the role of Cheng, a man who lost his family during The God Fall who’s now out for revenge.
Looking like a darker version of Avatar: The Last Airbender, players can use Cheng’s powers as an Elemancer to manipulate fire, water, earth, metal, and wood to fight back against the Celestials and their armies. The elemental interactions within the nearly eight-minute gameplay trailer are stunning and almost feel too good to be true. In one instance, Cheng uses his powers to destroy a metal water tower, drenching his enemies in water before freezing them solid. Granted, everyone thought Black Myth: Wukong was too good to be true, only for its developer to deliver a Game of the Year candidate.
Currently, the game is in a pre-alpha state, with the developers claiming they’re still adding assets to the world, even though the overworld mechanics are finished. They’ve also confirmed we won’t be playing the game any time soon, with an exact release date not coming before sometime late next year. While The God Slayer is confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, if it launches late enough in 2027, it might just become a cross-gen title.
