‘Supergirl’ Teaser Features Krypto (And Kara, Of Course)

The first teaser for next summer’s Supergirl plays it smart: it opens with one of the breakout characters from Superman, Krypto the Superdog. That makes sense, of course, as he is Kara Zor-El’s (Milly Alcock) pet who Clark (David Corenswet) was merely taking care of while she off-planet drinking under a red sun. But as the teaser also reveals, Kara is capable of doing anything her famous cousin can do even while inebriated.
I, Tonya director Craig Gillespie takes the helm as Kara finally returns to her own feature film series after 32 years. Joining Kara and Krypto for this journey are Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll; Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills; and Jason Momoa as the Main Man himself, Lobo. The actor previously played Aquaman in the old DC films continuity, but has seemingly found the right role at long last. Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz will also appear as Kara’s parents, Alura In-Ze and Zor-El. The film is based on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Mat Lopes, which makes it a fairly unusual film.
Typically, superhero films mix and match ideas from several stories. The Dark Knight Trilogy, for example, takes plenty of cues from Batman: Year One, Batman: The Long Halloween, and more. Across town, Marvel uses storyline titles like “Civil War” and “The Winter Solider” for film subtitles while taking huge liberties with the original stories. Avengers: Infinity War is almost nothing like the comic book event story of the same name, but certainly pulls a few images and ideas from that tale while radically reshaping it for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So, it will be interesting to see what sort of divergences will appear when Woman of Tomorrow becomes a film.
Based on the teaser, though, it at least looks good and we can’t wait to see Alcock as a this version of Kara when Supergirl arrives in theaters on July 26th, 2026.
