Comicon’s Best Web Animation Of 2025
by Tito W. James
As we approach a new year, it’s the perfect time to celebrate the amazing animation we’ve received in 2025. And has become Comicon custom, out own Tito W. James takes a look at what he considered to be the best of web animation in the year that was. Take a look below:
The Gaslight District
Gaslight District seamlessly blends the best aspects of Tex Avery and Aardman animation to create a really unique look for computer generated images. I love how the animation can evoke a doughy claymation quality and then shift into more fluid and snappy character animation. The characters of Mel, Breadhead, Butcher, and Mud are an instantly lovable family of monsters. With kinetic action scenes and juicy lore, this is a world I can’t wait to explore further.
Arcane Music Video
Any year that we get more Arcane animation from Studio Fortiche is a great year. The music video, “Ma Meilleure Ennemie” is a song exploring the forbidden love between Jinx (Ella Summer) and Ekko (Reed Shannon). This music video is a valentine to the romantic pairing fans lovingly nicknamed “Time Bomb.” What’s so great about this video is it exists as pure artistic expression. Arcane is already one of the most successful animated shows of all time; it doesn’t need more promo videos. “Ma Meilleure Ennemie” simply exists to celebrate these beautifully broken characters. I hope that fans of Fortiche’s work on Arcane will continue to support their next animated adventure: Penelope of Sparta.
Homestuck
Homestuck is an interactive webcomic created by Andrew Hussie. Its complex, nonlinear plot garnered a massive cult fanbase online. Now, this beloved story is being adapted into animation courtesy of SpindleHorse Animation (Helluva Boss, Hazbin Hotel). As someone who is completely new to Homestuck, I was impressed with how the webcomic was translated into animation and was quickly won over by its unique art style and humorous characters. There’s clearly a larger mystery at play and I’m itching to see more.
Knights of Guinevere
Created by Dana Terrace, John Bailey Owen, and Zach Marcus, Knights of Guinevere is an indie animated, sci-fi psychological thriller. Knights of Guinevere is also one of the most gorgeous 2D animated series we’ve seen in a long time. Terrace’s unique blend of influences are on full display. We have creepy carnival robots, body-horror, and hints of Ero Guro. Glitch Productions, Dana Terrace, and the whole creative team have delivered a powerful passion project that’s sure to thrill fans old and new.
Black Knight Teaser
Black Knight is an action-adventure animated film from director Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Primal). He recently released a teaser to gauge interest in a full theatrical film. I think I speak for every animation lover in the world when I say that we would love to see an original action-adventure animated film from Tartakovsky released in theaters! Now is the perfect time for a theatrically released animated film from a critically acclaimed director. You can see the creative DNA of Conan, Star Wars, Blade Runner, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, and Lone Wolf and Cub in the director’s best work. Black Knight should be one of those epic stories for a new generation.
The Amazing Digital Circus
The Amazing Digital Circus is another smash hit series from Glitch Productions. The show balances comedy, drama, horror, and gives hints at a larger mystery. It’s been a joy to see this show and characters develop over time. The Amazing Digital Circus continues to be a fresh voice within web animation.
Jesus 2
Jesse Moynihan in known for his work on psychedelic cartoons like Midnight Gospel and Adventure Time. Now, he has his own independent animated short film: Jesus 2. It’s like a spiritual successor to Midnight Gospel and explores a world where a whimsical anti-Christ forces people to live forever. The stop-motion and hand-drawn animation are unified by vibrant colors. I really loved how this short came together and look forward to what Moynihan will create in the future.
