‘Vampirella Archives’ Vol. 5 Set For April

by Erik Amaya

Dynamite’s Vampirella Archives continues its plan to reprint classic Vampi stories at an affordable price.

The company announced Tuesday that the fifth volume will be released this April. As a chronological reprinting of vintage material from the Warren Publishing days, Vol. 5 comprises Vampirella #29-35; stories originally published from 1973 to 1974. Writer Flaxman Loew‘s time with the character starts here as artist Jose Gonzalez joins him for a run of Vampi tales even as she begins to feature in every issue of the magazine. Jose Ortiz also lends his skills one last time.

Other stories included in the volume see the debut of Pantha — created by Steve Skeates and Rafael Auraleo — a character who will figure into subsequent Archives releases. Ramon Torrents‘ Fleur also first appears in tales collected here. Additionally, issues #32-34 feature tales from Jeffrey Catherine Jones and one collaboration between her and studio-mate Bernie Wrightson. Other artists contributing to the upcoming collection include Doug Moench, Richard Corben, Steve Skeates, Esteban Maroto, Fernando Fernandez, and more.

Vampirella Archives Vol. 5 is set for an April release with the series releasing new volumes every two months.
