‘Innerspace,’ ‘The Eye,’ And Even More John Woo Hitting 4K From Arrow Video In April

Arrow Video has unveiled another packed slate of 4K UHD and Blu-ray goodies for movie fans this April. Read on for a miniature Dennis Quaid, a double dose of Meiko Kaji, a buffed-up Kurt Russell, and more.
Remember when John Woo‘s Hong Kong action classics were unstreamable and very hard to find on disc without breaking the bank? Now they’re everywhere again, and we couldn’t be happier. His 1989 The Killer, starring Chow Yun Fat and Danny Lee, is arguably his most audacious film, mixing hyperactive shootouts with heartbreak and high melodrama. This three-disc 4K UHD/Blu-ray edition includes a new Woo commentary and interview, deleted scenes, a feature length documentary, the 130-minute Taiwan extended cut, a reversible sleeve, a double-sided poster, collectors’ booklet and six postcards. This version is UK only, but US audiences can find The Killer and more Woo classics on 4K from Shout! Studios.

Innerspace is a near-forgotten ’80s sci-fi gem from director Joe Dante (Gremlins), in which Dennis Quaid plays a maverick test pilot shrunk down to molecule-size and injected into Martin Short‘s bloodstream. Meg Ryan and Robert Picardo also star. The 4K UHD and Blu-ray include a Dante audio commentary, a new hour-long documentary, behind the scenes footage, a poster, reversible sleeve, booklet, and more. What would an Arrow release announcement be without some international horror? This time it’s the spooky 2002 Thai-Singaporean thriller The Eye, making its debut on 4K UHD. Writing-directing duo the Pang Brothers bring a psychological bend to a tale of a woman (Angelica Lee) who receives a cornea transplant, which allows her to see supernatural horrors hidden to everyone else. A few years later, Jessica Alba got the same cornea transplant in the US remake. Sporting a brand new 4K restoration, The Eye includes new interviews, visual essays, a booklet, and more. Available in the US and UK.Next up is 1998’s lean, mean sci-fi action Soldier, starring Kurt Russell. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Event Horizon) and written by David Webb Peoples (Blade Runner), Russell stars as a super solider who’s rendered obsolete by a new team of genetically engineered troops, and then stranded on a waste disposal planet. But he’s not alone … Gary Busey, Connie Nielsen, and Jason Scott Lee are there too. Fun fact: Russell’s real-life son, Wyatt Russell, plays his younger self in flashbacks. The 4K HD/Blu-ray edition is available in US and UK, and comes with new TBA extras, a reversible sleeve, collector’s booklet, and more.

Next in April, The Day of the Locust flies in on limited edition Blu-ray. Director John Schlesinger (Midnight Cowboy) absolutely burns Hollywood to the ground in this dark satire of dashed dreams and urban unrest based on Nathanael West’s novel. The eclectic cast includes William Atherton, Karen Black, Bo Hopkins, Donald Sutherland, Jackie Earle Haley, and Burgess Meredith. The UK-only Blu-ray features a 2K remaster, a historical commentary track, visual essays, a reversible sleeve, and collectors’ booklet.
March wraps up with the US and UK release of The Wandering Ginza Butterfly Collection on limited edition Blu-ray. Japanese icon Meiko Kaji (Lady Snowblood) takes viewers on a twisted trail of crime and corruption in 1970s Tokyo, as directed by Kazuhiko Yamaguchi (Sister Street Fighter). The Blu-ray set includes both Wandering Ginza Butterfly and its sequel, She Cat Gambler, and includes two commentaries, interviews, a reversible sleeve, a collectors’ booklet, and more.
