The Art Of Politics January: ‘Things Will Get Better, Right?’
by Richard Bruton
Another month passes by, we’re 1/12th into 2026 already. January, usually the quiet month where nothing much happens, right? Oh, what the hell … it’s the Art of Politics and there’s been a hell of a lot for the best political cartoonists to get into…
Ben Jennings sort of sums up the month, just one week in…

So, given that start to it all, where it’s been, let’s be honest, a bit of a month, let’s get into things… and of course, everything revolves around the Trump…
IT’S DONALD’S WORLD, WE JUST LIVE IN IT, AND WORRY ABOUT WHERE THE HELL WE’RE GOING…
Well, so much for not looking beyond America for the Trump administration V2.0… Venezuela, Greenland, Canada? and then the dismantling of the UN, replaced with Trump’s new Board of Peace – oh yes, there’s nothing like looking elsewhere whilst things go to shit internally…
Andrew Bennett covering it all…

First, the takeover of Venezuela… absolutely nothing to do with the fact it’s got the largest oil reserves in the world…

Then there’s the Greenland thing – absolutely nothing to do with the wealth of resources under the ground there either…

Meanwhile, things went as wrong as we always reckoned they would inside the US – as ICE agents flooded the blue state of Minnesota and things turned bloody, with the deaths of US citizens Renee Goode and then Alex Pretti showing America that no one’s safe from the Trump policies. Of particular note was how Trump scaled back things (or did his TACO thing) as soon as the pro-gun lobby took issue with his higher-ups seeming to make a case for ICE agents legitimately killing Alex Pretti because he was carrying a legal concealed carry firearm. Oh, it would be rather morbidly funny if it wasn’t so tragic.

And whilst Labour did its Labour thing, watching as the people in the country find things harder and harder, Reform UK kept getting more and more traction, their policy of punching down really paying off. And the number of failed Tories who jumped from Conservative to Reform just kept mounting…
