The Secret of NIMH is a quintessential example of an animated cult film. It follows a “timid mouse” who “seeks help from a colony of intelligent rats to save her family, but the rats have their own problems.” Much like Coraline, its horror elements made the film controversial among parents and beloved among goth kids. The film has aged beautifully with its lush painted backgrounds and gothic atmosphere. If you missed this masterpiece as a child, it’s well worth discovering as an adult.
