Streaming And Screaming: ‘Outlander’

Outlander has no right to be such a good film considering that it’s about Vikings fighting an alien monster. As the synopsis puts it, “when an alien craft crashes into an Iron Age Viking fjord, its secret cargo in the form of a monster starts wreaking havoc on a local village.” The movie works because it fully commits to the absurd premise. It also suggests that the epic battle of a man slaying an otherworldly monster inspired the legend of Beowulf. A brief cameo from Ron Perlman (Hellboy) only sweetens the experience.
