Streaming And Screaming: ‘Centurion’

Centurion is a solid stand-alone historical thriller starring Michael Fassbender — probably best known in geek circles for playing Magneto in X-Men: First Class — as “Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid who “marches with General Virilus’ (Dominic West) Ninth Legion, with orders to destroy the Picts and kill their leader.” Director Neil Marshall would go on to direct episodes of Game of Thrones and Westworld. But this film strips away the glitter and gold of ancient Rome and adds some much needed realism and existential angst. Lovers of gritty historical action films will get a kick out of it.
