ComicsPRO: ‘Ben 10’ Returns This May From Dynamite

by Erik Amaya

Dynamite is solidifying its Ben 10 plans.

The company previously announced the return of Ben 10 as a comic book series from its original creators — the Man of Action team consisting of Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle. But as part of its ComicsPRO announcement, Dynamite has clarified the series will begin its run this May.

The initial arc comes courtesy of Casey and artist Robert Carey. Take a look at some pages from Cary below:

Casey heads up what Dynamite calls a “new approach with a revamped origin story, a straightforward, action-oriented take on Ben Tennyson and his adventures.” Set in the 2020s, Ben and his family are “out camping, when a meteor crashes nearby.” He soon discovers the Omnitrix at the impact site. It gives him familiar powers, but this new version of the origin will include an expanded scale and scope of pivotal moments, including “a range of ‘real world'” implications with “the military getting peripherally involved and a bona fide alien threat.”

“As original creators of the entire Ben 10 phenomenon, this comic book is a huge deal for us,” Casey said in a statement. “For Ben 10 fans, both new and old, we’re committed to giving you everything you could possibly want in this series. We’ve got every previous incarnation to draw from and we’re not holding anything back. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … this is the most ‘Absolute’ Ben 10 you can get!”

While he takes point on the new origin, Kelly, Rouleau, and Seagle will write subsequent tales and using elements of previous Ben 10 projects to update the concept for a new decade.

Supporting the premiere issue are covers from Carey, Rouleau, Dustin Nguyen, Sebastian Piriz, and Eric Canete.  Ben 10 #1 arrives in shops on May 6th.
