‘Dune: Part 3’ Teaser Promises A Epic Conclusion

The Dune: Part 3 marketing machine revved up yesterday with the reveal of character posters and the promise that this “the epic conclusion” of the saga. And now with the release of the first teaser trailer, that concept is underlined.
Set a decade or so after the events of Dune: Part 2, Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) is well-established as the emperor of the known universe. The Fremen of Arrakis have gone out into the stars to do his bidding and though he and Chani (Zendaya) have yet to produce an heir, stability is maintained through Paul’s various grips on religion, the economy, and, of course, the Spice Melange. But not all is well in the Imperium as various factions conspire to end Paul’s reign. And stranger, still, he might be helping them. Is it all just an epic deathwish as the seeming Kwisatz Haderach foresees an action even he is unwilling to take?
If it isn’t obvious yet, we’re big Dune fans around here and, having read Dune Messiah, we have some idea of what’s to come. Of course, the film is only partially based on that second Dune novel with some of the details seemingly arriving from other installments of Frank Herbert‘s space epic — and some alterations director Denis Villeneuve and duology co-screenwriter Jon Spaihts have been seeding since the beginning. Although, the director’s collaborator on the script this time around is Brian K. Vaughan. Is it really the end of the story of just Villeneuve’s part in it? Like Paul, are there choices in the Dune future even this most accomplished of sci-fi filmmakers refuses to make?
All will be revealed, maybe, when Dune: Part 3 arrives on December 18th.
