‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer Does *Not* Reveal Sadie Sink’s Character

Since Sadie Sink was first rumored to appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, everyone has guessed just about every redheaded Marvel character she could play — from Jean Grey to Punisher supporting character Rachel Cole-Alves, to our choice, Firestar. But with the arrival of the Brand New Day trailer earlier this morning, we still don’t know as she does not appear in it.
Reportedly, the film will be more of a street-level affair for Tom Holland‘s friendly neighborhood webslinger even as the hangover from his Multiversal adventure in Spider-Man: No Way Home continues to impact his life. Will he ever get MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) to remember who he is? Based on the video above, he is literally MJ’s neighbor, but she has a new life with someone else. In the meantime, Peter seems to be evolving. Is he mutating into a creature more like the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man? And why do ninjas with a resemblance to the Hand suddenly have an interest in him? To get answers to the first question, Spidey will seek out the help of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) while The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) needs to “team up” with Peter for … reasons.
And, we’ll be honest, after 18 months of rumors about the film doubling down on the Multiverse, we’re glad Spider-Man is closer to basics, down to Spider-Man making choices that will hurt Peter Parker. That said, it still feels like Peter has a destiny to fulfill in the MCU … but that may have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday later this year. Speaking of that film, we’ll also admit to being a little more interested in Brand New Day and its solid characters over the smoke-and-mirrors of Doomsday‘s pre-release hype. Right now, anything can be true about that film. Sink, for example, could be Jean Grey in that film even if she’s someone else here.
Which is the long of way of saying we like the certainty of Brand New Day even if Peter has many, many uncertain days ahead.
