Marvel Reveals New ‘Avengers: Armageddon’ Variant Covers And Giveaway Day First Look

by Tony Thornley

This summer, Avengers: Armageddon will change the Marvel Universe as we know it. To get ready, Marvel Comics has given readers a first look at the event’s prelude and first variant covers.

Coming June 3rd from writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Delio Diaz & Frank Alpizar, Avengers: Armageddon will see the newest squad of Avengers facing down General Thaddeus Ross as the Red Hulk. Ross is on the warpath to claim Latveria as new United States territory, as well as taking revenge on Victor Von Doom’s homeland. However, there’s another threat waiting nearby for this new team…

Fans will get a first glimpse at the event as the creative team releases a prelude story as part of Marvel’s Comics Giveaway Day story on May 2nd (sharing a flipbook with the X-Men). The pages revealed the cost of the Avengers’ war with the Red Hulk, apparently leading up to the event, and (based on Ross’s awesome mustache) a significant time after.

Marvel also released Jerome Opena and Kaare Andrews’ variant covers for the debut issue, showing some hints at this exciting new Avengers line-up.

Check out the covers and pages, and watch for more about Avengers: Armageddon leading up to the June release.
