‘Red Sonja Noir’ Returns This July With ‘The Plunder And The Princess’

by Erik Amaya

Vampirella is not the only Dynamite star getting a special this July. Red Sonja is also making for a summer getaway. But not quite the one you expect. Red Sonja Noir: The Plunder & The Princess sees a hardboiled Sonja on an extra-length adventure courtesy of David Avallone and Edson Novaes.

This time, she off to the island of Zaralina for a very exclusive wedding among the rich and wealthy merchant class. Of course, beyond being a guest, she’s also a bodyguard. And naturally enough, “events take a harrowing turn for the dark and nefarious when an army of masked bandits, a powerful wizard, and a massive fearsome dragon crash the reception.”

In a statement, Avallone said, “Last year’s Red Sonja Noir: The Crimson Calypso was a fun experiment in genre-mash-up, placing the She-Devil with a Sword in a classic detective story… which some eagle-eyed fans easily spotted.

“I had a lot of fun with it, and Dynamite must have been satisfied because they asked for a second issue,” he continued. “This one is another fun riff (on a more obscure story this time), and Edson did a terrific job bringing the complicated tale to life!”

Supporting the issue are covers from Lesley “Leirix” Li, Robert Hack, and cosplayer Molly Stewart.

Red Sonja Noir: The Plunder & The Princess is due out this July from Dynamite Entertainment.
