Dynamite’s ‘Ben 10’ #1 Surpasses 82,000 Copies

The debut of Ben 10 at Dynamite comes with excitement from fans.
The company announced Thursday that initial orders of the debut issue has surpassed 82,000 units. Fans who haven’t already preordered the premiere are encouraged to reserve copies now as word of mouth may make this a hard-to-find issue upon release.
The series reunites the original Man of Action team — Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle — for what Casey calls a “new approach with a revamped origin story, a straightforward, action-oriented take on Ben Tennyson and his adventures.” Set in the 2020s, Ben and his family are “out camping, when a meteor crashes nearby.” He soon discovers the Omnitrix at the impact site. It gives him familiar powers, but this new version of the origin will include an expanded scale and scope of pivotal moments, including “a range of ‘real world’” implications with “the military getting peripherally involved and a bona fide alien threat.”
Casey also takes point as writer of the new origin story alongside artist Robert Carey. Kelly, Rouleau, and Seagle will write subsequent tales and using elements of previous Ben 10 projects to update the concept for a new decade.
Ben10 will begin its run this May with covers from Carey, Rouleau, Dustin Nguyen, Sebastian Piriz, and a special mystery bling bag containing one limited edition of the issue selected randomly from a range of exclusive covers.
