Kraken Express Invites Players To Survive The Age Of Piracy In ‘Windrose’

by Sage Ashford

As the developers on Sea of Thieves and Skull and Bones can tell you, it’s hard to make a good pirate game. Still, it seems like Kraken Express is off to a great start with their new survival RPG, Windrose. Originally known as CrosswindWindrose was planned to be a piracy MMO when it was first announced some years back.

In the years since, however, Kraken Express has transformed Windrose into a single-player RPG with online elements. Set during an Age of Piracy with decidedly more magical elements, Windrose sees players become a Captain with aims of taking on the legendary pirate Captain Blackbeard. To do so, they’ll have to travel the seas battling rival pirate groups and mythical monsters.

Currently, the game offers only three biomes in the form of the Coastal Jungle, Foothills, and Ashlands, and the only story that’s available is chapter one. However, they’ve already launched a roadmap that promises more biomes, the remainder of the story, and more weapons, ship classes, and skills/talents to unlock.  Windrose is available on Steam for $29.99, with 10% off for anyone who buys it before April 21st.  It’s unclear how long the game plans to be in Early Access, but perhaps it can achieve the task of becoming the first legendary pirate experience.
