‘The Mandalorian And Grogu’ May The 4th Trailer Reaches Across Generations
by Erik Amaya
Although it is already May 5th — or is the revenge of the fifth? — there are plenty of May the 4th things to talk about. For one, Disney and Lucasfilm released another Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu trailer that, at once, offers further glimpses of the new film and re-frames the Clan of Two’s journey as one of the core features of Star Wars as a whole.
As Jedi Master Yoda (Frank Oz) once said in a different context, always two there are: the master and the apprentice. While he may have been addressing the Sith’s Rule of Two, it has a more positive parallel in the bond across generations between Jedi and their Padawan learners — or even the way non-Force Sensitives like Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will take a foundling under their care and mentorship. The trailer above gives us a few snapshots of the various pairings found across the galaxy and across the years before zeroing in on the one between Djarin and his adopted son, Din Grogu. The pair have plenty to do together still, even if Djarin known Grogu will outlive him by centuries. Can he teach his son The Way before time runs out?
That’s not to say the film is the last act in The Mandalorian‘s saga — director Jon Favreau may have at least one more season of the television series in mind — but it’s clear everyone’s favorite Mando understands his place in the grand tradition of Star Wars teacher-and-pupil pairings. Here’s to hoping it will continue for a little while longer as Favreau and partner in crime Dave Filoni continue to explore the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy in projects like this one.
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22nd.
