Dynamite’s ‘Ben 10’ #1 Sells Out And Heads Back To The Presses

While we knew just how strong the fanbase is for Ben 10, it is still startling to see it via publishing announcements. According to Dynamite, the first issue of their new Ben 10 comic book has nearly sold out at the distributor level and is heading back to the presses for a second printing.
The series reunites the original Man of Action team — Joe Casey, Joe Kelly, Duncan Rouleau, and Steven T. Seagle — for what Casey calls a “new approach with a revamped origin story, a straightforward, action-oriented take on Ben Tennyson and his adventures.” Set in the 2020s, Ben and his family are “out camping, when a meteor crashes nearby.” He soon discovers the Omnitrix at the impact site. It gives him familiar powers, but this new version of the origin will include an expanded scale and scope of pivotal moments, including “a range of ‘real world’” implications with “the military getting peripherally involved and a bona fide alien threat.”
Casey also takes point as writer of the new origin story alongside artist Robert Carey. Kelly, Rouleau, and Seagle will write subsequent tales using elements of previous Ben 10 projects to update the concept for a new decade. Previously, Dynamite announced orders for the first issue exceeded 82,000 units. Consequently, they overprinted the debut and it still did not meet demand — a vote of confidence in the title from readers and fans of the original animated series. The new printing of issue #1 is set to be released with the second issue, so be sure to let your comic book shop know you want a copy if, somehow, you didn’t pick it up already. And if you find a copy of the first issue in a shop right now, you might want to pick it up.
Ben 10 #2 and the second printing of issue #1 will be in stores next month.
