Alamo Drafthouse Plans ‘Spider-Noir’ Screenings

by Erik Amaya

It’s a rainy day in New York, true believers. The sort of rain that sears the soul and leaves good men broken wrecks.

Or, at least, that’s the sort of narration we might expect in MGM+ and Amazon’s upcoming live action series Spider-Noir. Set for release later this month, Alamo Drafthouse has reveled plans for special screenings of the series on May 25th.

Loosely based on the Spider-Man Noir of the comics and, of course, Sony’s Spider-Verse movies, Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly, a “a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York” but from a different reality than the one featured in Spider-Verse. This Ben is “forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.” Beyond Cage, the cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Jack Huston as Flint Marko, Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, Li Jun Li, and Karen Rodriguez.

Alamo Drafthouses screenings will occur in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, San Francisco, Chicago, and Raleigh with Huston and Morris appearing at the LA screening for a special Q&A. And since the Drafthouse is also known for its food offerings, the screenings will be paired with a special menu, including “Popcorn Noir”, “The City Dog” and cocktails themed to the event. For those with a sweet tooth, there will also be a Blackout Malt — “vanilla ice cream blended with Oreos and Whoppers, and topped with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle.” That description puts me in the mood to narrate like a noir detective, but I’ll spare you all that.

Admission is free with the purchase of a meal and beverage voucher. Those interested in going should head over to Alamo’s website to secure a spot.
