Arrow Releases New Trailer For John Woo’s ‘Bullet In The Head’ In Anticipation Of 4K Release

While he may have slowed down his output in the 21st century, action filmmaker John Woo was prolific in his younger years. Film like The Killer and Hard Boiled made him a household name to film buffs in the west, but some films — the original Once A Thief, for example — fell under the radar. Another such film is his 19xx release, Bullet In the Head. Arrow Video is giving the film a lavish 4K UHD release next month and, to give prospective viewers an idea of what to expect, they’ve unveiled a new trailer:
As you can see from the video above, the semi-autobiographical movie is very much a mingling of Woo’s signature action filmmaking in a war picture setting. In fact, the film is set during the Vietnam War as best friends B (the legendary Tony Leung Chiu-Wai), Fai (Jacky Cheung), and Wing (Waise Lee) flee Hong Kong to “seek their fortune as smugglers.” Once in Saigon, they team up with another expat, Lok (Simon Yam). The quartet proceed to double-cross a ruthless gangster, stealing his gold and rescuing nightclub singer Sau-ching (Yolinda Yan) in the process. But will they make it out of the country alive and with their bonds of friendship in tact?
I’ll be honest, I was always interested in this one as — even in Southern California — it was hard to come by unless you spoke Mandarin or Cantonese and had access to obscure video disc formats. The evocative title only made it more compelling. Then, I promptly forgot about the movie through most of the 21st century. So it’s great to see Arrow giving some of Woo’s lesser known films a chance to shine.
Arrow’s 4K edition of Bullet in the Head arrives in the UK on June 22nd. The film is available in the US on 4K via Shout! Factory.
