Vault’s ‘Barbaric’ Goes To Series At Netflix

It’s a good day to be a fantasy fan.
As part of its annual Upfront presentation, Netflix revealed it has ordered Barbaric to series. Based on the Vault comic book by created by Mike Moreci and Nathan Gooden, it follows a “ruthless and crass barbarian is cursed to only use his violence for good, which sends him, his talking axe, and a young witch on a road of self discovery, redemption and revenge.” We promise, there is plenty of blood-letting on their path. Hell, the characters even met Deathstalker once!
The program comes courtesy of executive producers and showrunners Sheldon Turner (X-Men First Class) and Robert Rovner (Supergirl). Additional executive producers include Jennifer Klein (Armageddon), Barry Jossen, Tana Jamieson, Vault’s F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel, Sam Claflin, Luke Carroll, and Michael Stevenson.
Per previous reports from Deadline, Caflin is expected to appear in the series as the barbarian called Owen with Patrick Stewart as the voice of The Axe. Michael Bay was also on board to direct at one point, but it is unclear if that’s still the case. It is also unknown who will play Soren, the young witch mentioned in the series logline. Nonetheless, we’re happy to see the book reach a larger audience via a Netflix original series. And, if it isn’t obvious, we love seeing this sort of fantasy series cross over into live action.
While it may be some time before Barbaric makes it to your screen, we’ll keep an eye on its development.
