Kickstarting Comics — Massive First Look At Clover Press’ ‘The Marvel Art Of Mike Zeck’ On

by Olly MacNamee

We’re leaving you with something of a treat tonight. Clover Press and Marvel are collaborating once again on a new hardback collection of artwork by legendary artist Mike Zeck. The Marvel Art of Mike Zeck features iconic images alongside rare and never-before-seen artwork. And we have a rather large and varied preview of this coffee-table art book. If you’re a fan of Zeck, or ever liked The Punisher, Captain America and Spidey’s black costume, then you won’t want to miss this preview.

But before that, here’s a bio of Zeck’s career in comics:

“Breaking out at Marvel in 1977 as the penciler for Shang-Chi, Master of Kung-Fu, Mike Zeck grew to fame illustrating the twelve-issue Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Warsin which he designed the new iconic black costume for Spider-Man. Zeck’s mile-long list of contributions to Marvel include Kraven’s Last Hunt, Punisher: Circle of Blood, Captain America, Spectacular Spider-Man, and more, though he is remembered the most for work on the first Punisher mini-series in 1986, which has influenced every artist who has since illustrated the character.”

The Marvel Art of: Mike Zeck is over 200 pages and comes at a size of 9″ x 12″. The campaign will also feature 11″ x 17″ prints, stickers, a puzzle, signed books, and more.

Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz reminisces about his relationship with Zeck by stating:

“I first met Mike at the Chicago Comicon in 1986, right after his Punisher was released, and he left such a positive impression on this very impressionable kid. I had the privilege of working with him on a couple of projects over the years, and I am thrilled that in retirement, he’s agreed to be a part of our prestigious The Marvel Art Of… line of art books.
