‘The Social Reckoning’ Trailer Proves Why We Shouldn’t Trust Technocrats

The Social Reckoning is inspired by the true story of how Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.
Writer/director Aaron Sorkin creates a follow-up to The Social Network with this film. At the center of both is Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg, Jeremy Strong) whose ascent to power revolutionized the tech industry while also undermining civil liberties concerning privacy and the mass decimation of propaganda.
Much can be said about social media and how it has warped people’s lives and perception of reality. The same platform that allows citizens to connect with their family and friends has also been host to online harassment campaigns, scam artists, and full-blown terrorist organizations. Right now, we’re seeing a massive fanatical push for AI by tech companies. As with any new technology, people have the right to know what decisions are being made behind the scenes that affect our health and safety.
