Skybound Announces Steve Skroce Return To Comics With ‘Tales Of Wonder’
by Olly MacNamee
Steve Skroce (We Stand on Guard, Wolverine, The Matrix Trilogy), along with colourist Ian Herring (Ms. Marvel, The Shaolin Cowboy), and letterer Pat Brosseau (G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero) are forging Tales of Wonder, a new limited series for Skybound/Image Comics, coming this September. And, as the headline announces, it’s Skroce’s return to comics after a few years away, with a superhero adventure in which “two estranged comic book creators must save the world when their most heroic and villainous creations come to life”.

Here’s a much longer synopsis to chew over, as well as covers and a first look:
“Stu and Jake’s friendship was forged in World War II, but the one thing it couldn’t survive was the comic book industry. As their Wonder Comics creations grew from four-color sensations to a global phenomenon, everything changed…
Now, these two legendary comic creators have reunited to launch the America’s Freedom Force cinematic universe, only to discover the make-believe superheroes and monsters from their stories are very, very real. Stu and Jake must overcome decades of bad blood and stolen credit if they’re going to help the world’s greatest superheroes save our world!”
Speaking of this new miniseries, Skroce stated:
“This is a story I’ve dreamt of telling for years. It’s a tale about the many pitfalls of creative collaboration. When things go south, lifelong friendships can end and the axe grinding can last for decades. Tales of Wonder is about finding your way back from that, it’s about believing in a second chance to get things right, it’s about the value of friendship, and it’s all wrapped up in a full throttle, action packed Superhero adventure. I hope you dig it.”
Executive Editor Ben Abernathy added:
“Steve Skroce is a generational talent, and I’m beyond thrilled that his latest series is here at Skybound. His poignant tale of two Golden Age comic book creators as they face their greatest creations, literally, is a tale for the ages!”
Tales of Wonder #1 is out on Wednesday, 2nd September ,with covers by Skroce, Yasmine Putri, Jorge Fornés, Peter Carroll (1:25 Incentive), Caspar Wijngaard (1:50 Incentive) and Miki Montlló (1:100 foil Incentive).
