Criterion Collection Unveils ‘The Complete Kubrick’ Thirty-Disc 4K UHD And Blu-ray Set

The legendary, meticulous, obsessive filmmaker Stanley Kubrick only made a handful of movies in a 60-year career before his death in 1999, but his influence can still be felt in many ways. The Criterion Collection previously released a few of his films on Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD over the decades, but now the premiere boutique label has outdone themselves by announcing the upcoming boxset: The Complete Kubrick.
This mammoth monolith looks back at his diverse filmography and includes Killer’s Kiss, The Killing, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Lolita, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut, and three short films. It also includes Kubrick’s 1951 debut film — Fear and Desire — which he later pulled from circulation, as a special feature on the disc with Killer’s Kiss.
This 30-disc (thirty!) 4K UHD/Blu-ray set looks absolutely enormous and will likely be about the same size as the Ingmar Bergman set they released a few years ago that was also 30 discs, but included 39 films.
All the titles have been restored and remastered in 4K and include original soundtracks alongside 5.1 mixes. Special features include more than 25 hours of interviews, documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage, and more. It’s all housed in deluxe packaging featuring rare photos, new artwork, and documents with Kubrick’s own annotations.
