Kickstarting Comics: ‘Death Of Power 9 + 10’ From Kirt Burdick

After backing projects on Kickstarter since 2014, Kirt Burdick‘s Death of Power is easily the most insane thing to read. It is an outlaw comix parody of darker superhero stories like “The Death of Superman.” What starts as a fight between bootlegs of Superman and Doomsday evolves into a multi-volume epic that sees bootleg-Wonder Woman merge powers with Plastic Man to take on a hybrid of Lex Luthor and Darkseid.
With superheroes saturating popular culture, it’s easy to get desensitized or jaded. But this comic series is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. Death of Power has everything I want from an outlaw comic: limited color palettes, long action scenes, sparse dialogue, creative onomatopoeia, and grotesque, erotic elements that would make Shintaro Kago blush. This has the same illicit appeal as a midnight movie or extreme anime OVA. It’s a comic created for the comics connoisseur who’s sick of work that’s overly palatable.
I hope Burdick will create an omnibus edition of all 10 issues of because this is an epic that’s best read in one sitting. Death of Power 9 + 10 will run on Kickstarter from July 13th through the 31st. Readers can follow the Kickstarter right now to be notified upon launch.
