SDCC 2026: All The DC Comics News Announced

It was a busy weekend for DC Comics with several new series being announced and some other surprises, mainly involving Batman and/or Absolute Batman. As well as the return of Western anti-hero Jonah Hex, in new six-issue series Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death by writer/artist Michael Walsh, James Harren was revealed as the writer/creator relaunching The Demon at DC as well as new series for Vixen, Static and a new Batman titles — because it seems you can never have enough Batman titles — Shadow of the Bat, written by Deniz Camp. Plus, we get a crossover that’s not a crossover with Batman of Two Worlds #1 for Batman Day on September 19th as well as news on the inevitable Absolute Teen Titans. Here’s a roundup of all these announcements as well as preview art.

First up, we’ll look at Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death by Michael Walsh:

“Welcome to the end of the Wild West. Welcome to the quiet life of a broken-down bounty hunter whose own story, one of bloodshed, pain, and guilt, ended long ago—or so he thought.

 In a small town called Ashecott, something evil has arrived. Something more dangerous than a gunslinger, more sinister than an outlaw, and older than the town it seeks to infect. Something from a world beyond the only one its victims have ever known. Something darker.

 Unfortunately for that evil, Jonah Hex has taken notice. Not just of the otherworldly entities surrounding his home, or the child with mysterious abilities they seek to capture—but also of the chance to finally redeem himself.

Jonah Hex and the Shadow of Death #1, is out on Wednesday, 7th October and will feature a main cover by Walsh as well as variant covers by Brian Bolland, Julian Totino Tedesco, Javier Rodríguez (1:25), and Hayden Sherman (Next Level).

Next up comes news of three new titles: Vixen by Stephanie Williams and Khary Randolph, Static by Cody Ziglar and Diego Olortegui, and Shadow of the Bat by Deniz Camp and Javier Rodríguez.

Next, we have James Harren on Jack Kirby‘s The Demon:

“The world is infested with a darkness its people cannot see. Beasts from Hell feast on humanity’s soul, sucking it dry and leaving nothing but a shell behind.

Only one person can see these monsters and cast them back to Hell: Jason Blood! But he is a shadow of the man he once was, wandering the world following the face of a wizard long gone and hearing a voice in his head demanding to be let out. 

How can Jason Blood help protect the world from demons when he himself is not sure how to work with the one bound to his soul? Will the Demon Etrigan ever rise again?”

The Demon #1 is out on Wednesday, 7th October, with variant covers by Daniel Warren Johnson, Michael Walsh, Hayden Sherman (Next Level), and John McCrea.

And then there was the news of a Batman crossover that’s not a crossover, with Batman of Two Worlds #1. A one-shot special featuring two new Batman stories but set in two different universes. The DC Universe Batman story is by writer Matt Fraction, artist Javi Fernández, with colourist Tomeu Morey and letterer Clayton Cowles. While the Absolute Batman story comes from writer Scott Snyder, artist Nick Derington, with colourist Frank Martin and letterer Tom Napolitano.

Fraction said this of the one-shot:

“You have two different looks at Batman. The moral structures, the ethical structures, the political structures. A chance to put them side by side and see the similarities and differences.”

While Snyder added:

“This is just such a unique momen. The mission was to show what’s special about each interpretation. The two stories are both about Batman’s form of justice.”

Batman of Two Worlds #1 is out on Saturday, 19th September and costs just $2.99.

And speaking about Batman, or rather Absolute Batman, while it’s not big news to announce that Batman #25 will be an oversized issue — as many 25th issues are — it may be news that this milestone marks a change in storytelling from the creative duo of Snyder and Dragotta.

During the DC’s Absolute Universe panel, Dragotta stated:

“It’s kind of a turning point. The pieces are set. And the next 25 [issues] are where all the pieces fall and who these characters all become.”

With Snyder adding:

“So, the second half of this 50-issue stretch is really about now letting these pieces really clash and interact and grow.

“In #25, we have our first really big confrontation between Joker and Batman, and that’s where we’re headed. It’s the moment we’ve been building to for 25 issues.” 

Finally, also teased at SDCC 2026 was the news that an Absolute Cyborg was going to make his debut in Absolute Flash #20 by writer Jeff Lemire and artist Haining, with more Teen Titans following on, possibly.
